Carved by Ice, Shaped by Water

This piece captures the awe-inspiring presence of Denali, the highest peak in North America, towering at 20,310 feet. Known as "The High One" in the Koyukon Athabaskan language, Denali has been a sacred and formidable landmark for centuries, drawing explorers, climbers, and artists alike.

Below the mountain’s icy crown, the landscape is shaped by the dynamic, ever-changing braided rivers that weave through Denali National Park. Fed by glacial melt, these rivers carve intricate, shifting channels, their silty waters reflecting the raw power of time and nature. Unlike single-threaded rivers, braided rivers constantly reshape the land, creating a living, moving network that mirrors the untamed wilderness of Alaska.

This artwork seeks to honor the relationship between Denali and the rivers below—two forces of nature, one standing timeless and unmoving, the other in constant motion, together defining the spirit of the Last Frontier.
